How do I calculate a discount?
Discount Amount = Original Price × (Discount % / 100). Then subtract from the original: Sale Price = Original Price − Discount Amount. For example, 20% off $100 = $20 discount, so the sale price is $80.
What's the difference between discount and markup?
Discount reduces the original price (used in sales). Markup increases the cost price (used in pricing products). They use opposite formulas: discount subtracts from price, markup adds to cost.
Can I calculate multiple discounts?
Yes. Apply discounts sequentially: first discount on original price, then second discount on the reduced price. For example, 20% off $100 = $80, then 10% off $80 = $72 final price.
What discount percentage should I offer?
It depends on your margin. Never discount below your cost. A safe rule: only discount up to half your gross profit margin. If your margin is 40%, you can safely offer up to a 20% discount.
